Spirit Week Recap- Annie Egan ’25

During the cold, busy time of year between Winter and Spring breaks, Oak Knoll students often find themselves needing something to look forward to. Spirit Week, taking place the last week of February, is the perfect pick-me-up for students during the winter months. It is a tradition that many current students and alumni refer to as their favorite Oak Knoll memory, as it is a week filled with competitions, themed dress-down days, and school bonding.

On Monday, students arrived at school in a “dress for success” business attire theme, walking the hallways in pants suits, and ties. During the afternoon assembly, the Academic Council hosted a Family Feud activity where grades competed against each other in a trivia-style game. Each grade was successful and it was the perfect way to start off spirit week.

On Tuesday, a trail of feathers and glitter followed students around the hallways during the dress like a popstar theme day. Girls arrived to class ready to walk the red carpet, while many showcased their talents on stage during the talent show. The Creative Arts Council hosted the event, featuring acts by Upper School students and many Lower School performances.

On Wednesday, a new addition to Spirit Week, Oak Knoll students from both the Upper and Lower Schools dressed in their house colors. The day ended with a House competition, students filling the bleachers in the Tisdall gym. Relays such as three-legged races, leapfrog, and jump roping took place between students from each house, Mayfield being victorious after the day’s competitions.

On Thursday, a day that many students look forward to all year, girls arrived dressed in various costumes, ready to perform in their grade’s Lip Sync Dance. For just a few minutes, groups from each grade perform a lip sync dance to themes such as Justin Bieber eras, decades, and Super Bowl Halftime shows. It is an assembly filled with fun and a competitive spirit that is often the highlight of Spirit Week at Oak Knoll.

To finish off Spirit Week on Friday, students dressed for the Sports fun theme wearing Jerseys and other sports gear. The assembly, hosted by the Athletic Council, was a competition between the grades of basketball musical chairs and knockout. Students danced, listened to music, and cheered on their peers as a great way to end Spirit Week at Oak Knoll.
