Oak Knoll’s Faith Amid the Coronavirus Pandemic

Mary Margaret Schroeder ’20

Although our days are filled with uncertainty, we all know what has not changed, is not changing, and will never change: God and His love for us. Throughout this pandemic, Oak Knoll has been staying strong in faith, reflecting our core belief that God is central in our lives. Here is what our community has been up to in order to stay connected to our faith during these challenging times:

Rosary Beads for Unity, Oak Knoll’s Rosary society, has been holding weekly virtual meetings on Tuesdays at 3:05 pm EST. They pick a special intention for each Rosary and offer images to reflect upon for the Mysteries. It is Webinar-style, and all are welcome. Feel free to send the link to family and friends!

The Upper School and Lower School unite every Friday morning at 8:00 EST for a quick, but very meaningful, community prayer service. The service includes music, the upcoming Sunday’s Gospel reading, and prayers of the faithful, as well as the popular “Let Us Love One Another” and “Sweet Holy Child Jesus” prayers. It’s a great way to start your day!

The Upper School held an Easter Prayer Service over Zoom on April 14, which included an interactive reading and a meditation on a popular Christian worship song.

Mental Health Week featured a day on spiritual wellness, showcasing videos on prayer habits.

The Campus Ministry Council has been sending out emails every Monday after school as part of the Social Distancing Spirit Week; the emails have covered everything from meditation to prayer while you exercise (and raising money for Feeding America through exercise) to an encouraging video of the council reading uplifting Bible verses

The entire Oak Knoll community has been very busy doing service throughout the last few weeks. There are too many amazing things to name! One remarkable act of service was organized by the Baking Club. They collected baked goods from students and teachers and donated them to the frontline workers at Overlook Hospital. In addition, the Athletic Council organized a virtual run called the Run As One. Donations from the run support Oak Knoll’s emergency fund, which aids families in our community affected financially by the pandemic.

Fun Fact: Members of the Society of the Holy Child created face masks with the SHCJ logo 🙂
