There are tons of movies in theaters now and soon coming to theaters which are projected to be blockbusters. Here are some of the biggest films to look forward to.
Evil Dead Rise is a horror movie directed and written by Lee Cronin that came to theaters on April 21. The film is an adaptation of The Evil Dead (1981) directed by Sam Raimi. The story follows two estranged sisters who reunite but quickly realize their so-called family is not who and what they thought they were. Attacked by relentless demons, the sisters must fight these terrifying beings if they hope to make it out alive.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the third and final installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. The adventurous and emotional film was directed by James Gunn and unfortunately marks the end of his work with Marvel Studios in the foreseeable future. After being released on May 5, the film’s debut made $118 million in the domestic box office. On their last ride together, Peter Quill must unite the Guardians together one last time to save one of their own. Filled with humorous scenes and emotional blows, this film will leave you smiling with tears.
Fast X is the tenth installment of The Fast Saga. Directed by Louis Leterrier, the film includes long-time castmates Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and Jason Statham so it is sure to bring a nostalgic feeling to loyal fans. Although the tight-knit group of friends has faced several opponents in the past, this new enemy has the clear objective of attacking Dom’s number one priority – his family. See this heart-racing film on May 19.
Little Mermaid, directed by Rob Marshall, is the sixth live-action Disney princess film. Ariel, the youngest daughter of King Triton’s children, longs to experience what life holds beyond the sea. After saving him from a tragic shipwreck, Ariel and Prince Eric experience love at first sight. She makes a deal with the devious sea witch, Ursula, to achieve her dreams of living the rest of her life on land. Watch Ariel’s timeless story be brought to life by Halle Bailey on May 26.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the sequel to its predecessor, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, this film is highly anticipated due to the mass success of its predecessor. Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy find themselves across the multiverse. They eventually meet alternative Spider-People who have the collective goal of protecting the multiverse. Conflict arises when the new threat emerges, and the group of Spider beings cannot agree on one way to defend the multiverse. Miles must reevaluate his own limits to save the people he loves and while still come out as the hero of this story. See Spidey save the neighborhood again on June 2.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is the seventh installment in the Transformers film series. Directed by Steven Caple Jr., the movie takes viewers back to the ‘90s where the Autobots face a larger obstacle than ever before from the Decepticons. In this movie, the Autobots will team up with Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons to save the sheer existence of Earth as they know it. Fan favorite voice actor of Optimus Prime, Peter Cullen, has been honored with this film. For Rise of the Beasts, CGI artists have remodeled Optimus Prime’s face to imitate Cullen’s as an ultimate tribute to the years he has given to the franchise. See the Autobots take on the Decepticons on June 7.
The fifth installment of the Indian Jones movie series, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, follows Indiana Jones on yet another exciting adventure. In this film, Jones must find an infamous dial that has the power to completely alter history. Former Nazi and NASA employee, Jurgen Voller, has other plans for the dial and is also in the race to retrieve it. Jones and his granddaughter, Helena Shaw, must defy all odds to protect this dial from changing the world forever. Watch this exciting story unfold on June 30.
Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig, is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year. Mattel’s Barbie will be brought to life by Margot Robbie. After not meeting the societal standards of perfection in Barbieland, Barbie is exiled and sets off for the human world in hopes of finding acceptance and happiness. Oppenheimer will dig deep into the story of famous physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and his team as they work on the Manhattan Project and the ultimate creation of the atomic bomb. Fans of director Christopher Nolan are expecting nothing less than a blockbuster as he also directed highly successful films like Interstellar, Inception, and The Dark Knight. In order to properly convey the extreme impact of an atomic bomb, Nolan used real explosives and no CGI to recreate the 1945 Trinity Test, the first-ever nuclear weapon detonation. While at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Nolan described Oppenheimer as “the most important person who ever lived. He made the world that we live in for better or for worse. His story has to be seen to be believed.” This must-see will be in theaters on July 21.
