Service Day

Megan McCann ’23

On Oak Knoll’s annual service day, the community is filled with feelings of generosity and gratitude. It is always a festive and fun day; however, this year, it will look a bit different. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are unable to go on our usual field trips outside of school. This will result in a different layout of Service Day, but the same spirit of kindness and appreciation will remain in the community. This year, there will be justice related presentations given to students by members in the junior class, which will enable students to learn about and become more aware of our world’s issues. Presentations being given include topics such as domestic violence, systematic racism, and world hunger. By becoming more mindful of these injustices, we are educating ourselves and gaining knowledge to spread to our peers and surrounding communities. Similar to last year, Oak Knoll is offering service projects for students to participate in. Making dog toys, diaper cakes, and braiding friendship bracelets for hospital patients are among some of the exciting programs provided. The 2020 Oak Knoll Service day is set to be an inspiring and educational opportunity, and the constant persistence of leaders in the community inspires tremendous hope for a great day.
