Oak Knoll vs. Westfield Soccer – Anna Wojie ’25

On Friday, October 20, 2023, Oak Knoll was scheduled to play Westfield in the Union County semi-finals tournament game. Ranked #1 in the county, Westfield had a 54-game win streak. The game was considered unwinnable, yet the Oak Knoll Varsity soccer team had nothing to lose. This game would decide whether or not Oak Knoll would make it to the Union County Finals and have a chance at winning the tournament. The girls worked hard preparing for this game, using practice sessions to work on strategies to outplay Westfield. Going into the game, the team was ready. Each and every player worked their hardest on the field. That, paired with the amazing support from everyone who attended the game, Oak Knoll soccer was able to take the win, breaking Westfield’s lengthy win streak. This has been one of the best games the soccer team has played all season, if not the best. Every player on the field played an amazing game, fearlessly stepping to the ball and creating chances to score. The defense was able to shut down Westfield’s attackers, clearing any ball coming near the net. The offense created numerous scoring opportunities, with the absolute highlight coming from a beautiful upper left corner shot from freshman Reagan Moore, resulting in Oak Knoll keeping a clean sheet with a 1-0 win! Although this game was extremely intense, the outstanding win was worth it! Fantastic job Varsity soccer!
