Ella Metzler ’22

As the school year comes to an end, many of us are looking forward to one thing: being outside in the warm weather while blasting music. Though there are already plenty of oldie-but-goodies to listen to, people are always looking for new songs to learn the words to. Luckily, there are many new albums and songs waiting to be released that will make summer 2021 unforgettable. Coming out Friday, May 21, rising star Olivia Rodrigo is releasing her debut album, Sour. This album will include her two hit songs, “Driver’s License” and “Deja Vu”. In an interview with Billboard, Rodrigo spoke on how she does not want all her songs to be about heartbreak, though her two most popular songs are famous for that very reason. She also mentions her two biggest mentors in the music industry- Taylor Swift and Lorde.

For those who enjoy rap music, you’re in luck: Migos is releasing an album on June 11th, titled Culture III. This will be a follow up to their 2018 album, Culture II, and will include eight songs. Their new music will include features from artists such as Lil Wayne and Travis Scott. They intended on releasing this album in 2020, but decided it would be better to wait until the pandemic was nearly over, as they had enough chaos for one year. Billie Eilish is well known for her distinctive music productions and fashion sensibilities. However, it seems as though she is making changes in her music style, going from a mysterious to a more upbeat and optimistic manner. Along with this change in her music, she has also altered her appearance by dying her hair from a dark black to a platinum blonde. She will release her album, Happier Than Ever, on July 30, 2021. When posting her surprise on Instagram, she captioned her post, “I can’t even tell you. I’ve never felt so much love for a project than I do for this one.” Clearly, Billie Eilish has a lot in store for her fans, and everyone is looking forward to the release date.
