Interview with Mr. Weck

Ava Pospeck ’22

This year Mr. Iazetti will be retiring after working as Director of Security at Oak Knoll for 7 and a half years. He will be succeeded by former Summit chief of police, Mr. Robert Weck. Mr. Weck worked at Chief of police for over 30 years and is excited to continue his career at Oak Knoll. Let’s get to know Mr. Weck!

Which aspect of the job are you most excited about?

I am most excited about the interaction with the students and staff. I think the biggest part of success in any field is interacting and communicating with others.

What was your first impression of Oak Knoll?

I knew Oak Knoll from a distant setting as police chief, yet when I officially came here I noticed the welcoming atmosphere of the students, faculty, and staff. I love seeing the positive interactions among the students on a daily basis.

What made you decide to come work for Oak Knoll?

After I retired I took a year long sabbatical. When I came back, a few different opportunities presented themselves, yet when I came to Oak Knoll, I thought it was a great fit and I wanted to be a part of such a welcoming community.

What made you decide to pursue a career in law enforcement?

Ever since I was young, I wanted to help people, and I thought a career in law enforcement would be one of the best ways to do so. I enjoy helping people through community policing and I left my legacy through the Summit community. One of the things I really wanted to establish was a connection between the people of Summit and the police.

What can you take from your career as former police chief and implement into OKS?

At my office at headquarters, I had a plaque on my desk saying “Teamwork makes the dream work.” I truly believe that this works in every relationship and should be continued at Oak Knoll.

What do you do in your free time when you are away from Oak Knoll?

I used to coach youth lacrosse and football in Madison, and since my children have grown older, I enjoy playing paddle, using the Peloton, and all things outdoors. On top of that, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

Why did you decide to run for Summit Council?

I wanted to help the people of Summit on a governmental level. I think that with my background in law enforcement and as a leader, I would be able to help the community and continue my legacy through community programs, specifically helping the youth of Summit.

How will you manage your time running for a place on the Summit Council and director of security?

I would manage my time by separating my two jobs; when I am here at Oak Knoll I would give 100% of my time to Oak Knoll’s students, faculty, staff and parents to ensure the safety and security of the community, but specifically the student’s safety. When I am working as a council member, granted I am elected, I will devote 100% of my time there and to the people of Summit. I have always liked to work, and I have always worn many hats so I am confident in my ability to balance the roles equally.

I love the welcoming atmosphere and family that I saw when I first came to Oak Knoll and I am excited to become a part of such a wonderful family!
