Hallmark Movies: A Beloved Christmas Pastime

An executive CEO is needed to return to her small town to claim her late father’s Christmas tree farm. She meets one of the farm hands who she has known since they were kids. She doesn’t get along well with him at first, but on Christmas Eve, by the magic of Christmas, of course, she falls in love with him under the glow of the moonlight upon the snow. This is the classic trope for a Hallmark movie. Although they can be quite repetitive, Hallmark romance movies are a comfort activity for some around Christmas time. There is nothing better than wearing your coziest Christmas pajamas, making warm hot chocolate, and turning on the Hallmark channel to watch a predictable holiday movie. Below is a list of some of my favorites and a little about them. I hope you enjoy and Merry Christmas!

Holiday for Heroes

Audrey Brown and soldier Matt Evans exchange letters for a year while Matt is deployed. Matt then returns home to meet Audrey. Will Christmas spark a romance between the two or is their love better on paper? I love this movie because when he does come home, it isn’t awkward at all. One would imagine that finally meeting someone with whom you only contacted via mail would be very awkward at first; however this is a Hallmark movie, and reality does not apply.

The Christmas Train

Unlike other Hallmark movies, this film follows the journey of a journalist on a cross-country mission at Christmas in search of inspiration for a book on his late father. He meets a woman on the train who is writing a script. Do they end up together or do their stories end in different places?

I love this movie because it is less of a traditional Hallmark movie and more of a love story. Since it’s a bit older and therefore less predictable, it is not in the same class as other movies from Hallmark.

A Christmas Visitor

11 years ago a family lost their brother/son to the Persian Gulf war. They have lost all Christmas spirit and their love for eachother. This year however, there is a new visitor at their home just in time for Christmas. Matthew (the visitor) claims to have served with the family’s son/brother, John. Matthew shares stories and hopes to restore the family’s faith in Christmas. Is it possible? Watch and find out!

This is probably my favorite Hallmark movie because it is so unlike the others and yet it’s still a tear jerker. I won’t spoil it for you, but it is an amazing movie to watch with your family because it shows the true meaning of Christmas: more specifically, the love that Christmas can bring.
