Correction to Homework Checks Article

Elizabeth Eck ’22

An error was made in the last edition in the article “Opinion: The Pros and Cons to Homework Checks” by Vanessa Brum ’23 and Anna Stiesi ’23. In this article, it was stated that since the math department grades based on a total points system, homework checks are weighted the same amount as tests or quizzes. However, Untucked has been informed by Ms. Powers, the chair of the math department, that this is inaccurate. Although the math department does grade using the total points system, the fact that tests and quizzes are worth 60 and 30 points, respectively, means that they are weighted much heavier than homework checks are. The four point homework checks may have a small effect on your grade, but the heftier assessments will still have the bigger impact. We apologize for the error.
