Book of the month-Esperanza Burbano ’26

Many books have informed the world with their new perspective and ideas which we as humans have learned a great deal from. As an avid reader myself, this month I have chosen to speak about a book that goes back to a time that should never be forgotten. The Nightingale by Kristian Hannah is a historical fiction novel set in France during World War 2 which follows the journey of two sisters, Vianne and Isabelle. Vianne, a young woman and mother, only has a few goals during this war: to keep her head down, protect her child, and cause no issues for anything and anyone involved in the war. Isabelle, on the other hand, is a hot-tempered 18-year-old who has no intention of staying silent and instead desires to make a difference. Kristin Hannah beautifully portrays the hardships women had to face in the time of war, as she took inspiration from true stories of women who tragically experienced the horror of World War 2. This book is not only filled with truth but one that highlights the gruesome reality of war.
