2024’s Spotify Wrapped-Sofia Rotsztain ’26

As another music season rolls around, popular artists are beginning to create new music and go on tour with groundbreaking performances. This has been an exciting year as Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish, and Charli XCX have released their new albums and are on tour.

This year, many records have been shattered. Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour was the first to gross more than 1 billion dollars. The tour’s popularity has even made it challenging for fans to buy tickets. Additionally, her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, became the first to surpass 1 billion streams in a single week. Taylor has had a remarkable year and will continue to do great things in the future. Sabrina Carpenter, with her new album Short n’ Sweet, debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Top 200 list, which is an admirable accomplishment.

Despite all the successes within the music industry this year, there have been some controversial incidents that shocked fans. Firstly, after canceling her performance at the festival All Things Go, Chappell Roan’s fans were shocked, upset, and hurt. Chappell, a new artist who reached popularity at a rapid rate, began to describe the mental health challenges of being put into the spotlight and seemed to reach her breaking point. Some fans understood the circumstances, while others were disappointed that she announced her exit from the festival only the day before, meaning that there was no time to sell their tickets or change plans because of her absence. Chappel Roan’s future is uncertain, as she has the potential to reach greater heights and popularity, but her issues with adjusting to the life of a pop star may hold her back. Secondly, after the first night of her tour, The Secret of Us at Radio City Music Hall in New York, Gracie Abrams announced her vocal injury that prevented her from performing the next day. Fans were devastated, as her tour has been a huge success with her widely popular album, The Secret of Us. However, Gracie was able to perform at her postponed show after making a full recovery.

This year has been full of wins for the music industry, specifically female artists. Fans will continue to look forward to new music, free from any controversies. This article is dedicated to Liam Payne, who tragically passed away on October 16, 2024. May he rest in peace, and his impact on music will forever be felt.
